Commission for Google’s New HQ

Curious is an appropriate name for the world’s biggest web search provider and technology innovator

When Google announced the design of their new headquarters design, they opened a competition for the public art which would surround the building. Company founders stated that want standard public art but they wanted Burning Man art since many of them and their employees go to Burning Man. There would be over 200 entries to the competition which was honed down to 6 finalists. Our design of Curious the grizzly bear was one of them.

Curious is covered in approximately 160,000 pennies. Her eyes are blown glass and her nose hammered steel. The body is hand carved polystyrene over steel frame.

Curious was installed in September 2022 on the grounds of the Charleston Street campus. Later in 2023 the grounds will be open to the public when construction is completed.
