ROSEMARY BEE

_LSA0050.jpg

This bee is the second in our series of penny bees inspired by the creation of our donation to Burning Man’s Artumnal Gathering auction in 2019. The goal of this design was show a bee in motion, having just landed on the anthers of a rosemary flower.

Rosemary Bee is a commissioned piece that graces the garden of its owners. The owners produce delightful honey from bee hives on their property so they obviously enjoy bees. The owners are also supporters of Burning Man and it’s artists which we very much appreciate.

The bee stands over three feet tall from base to head. Base and inner frame are steel, the body is carved polystyrene covered in a colored concrete with embedded new pennies. The glittery eyes are multicoated with lacquer finish. Wings made of perforated steel and mandibles carved from wood block.
